🌟⭐Well-Being and Somatic Safety✨ 🌟

Spread the love

Always motivated to take care of yourself and always improve your life a little more? 🌟Today I wanted to talk to you about how feeling safe is at the heart of intimacy and all forms of positive relationships.🌟

Today we're going to explore what somatic security is and why it's so important to us humans.🌟

What is somatic security?

The term “somatic” refers to the body, so we can say that somatic security is the experience that, here, now, in my body, I am safe. It is the feeling of security felt directly in the body.

In this state, we feel grounded, comfortable with our physical sensations, at home in our bodies, and connected to the world around us. This allows us to be more in touch with our feelings, emotions and bodily needs, bringing a greater sense of embodied presence, confidence and general well-being.🌟

An evolutionary perspective

From a biological perspective, somatic safety can be described as what we feel when our nervous system perceives no immediate threat in our environment. We can think of this feeling of safety as our resting state, our default setting, to which we automatically return when we perceive no signs of danger in our environment.🦋

This process of evaluation and response occurs below the level of our consciousness, deep within the body. Our body itself decides whether it is safe or not and adjusts based on what it perceives. This is why we say that somatic safety is created in and by the body – it is fundamentally a bodily experience, created primarily by the (involuntary) autonomic nervous system itself, independent of conscious input.✨

Characteristics of somatic security

In the somatic secure state, many characteristics are present:

  • On a physiological level, our breathing is deep, our heart rate slows (but not too much), our energy is centered vibrantly in the core of our body (rather than in the limbs), and our gaze is open and diffuse...👁️

  • Mentally and emotionally, our thought processes are calm and clear, and we naturally inhabit more of our relational capacities: curiosity, awareness, attunement, intimacy, compassion, creative expression, and the other aspects of social engagement that make us we human beings...❣️

Additionally, we are able to tap into a deeper well of personal and interpersonal resources… We are more adept at taking appropriate risks… We can set clear boundaries when we need to… And we can easily enter into co -creativity – the essence of intimacy. 🌈 As you can see, the feeling of security is therefore very important for us humans. The qualities and characteristics it brings promote a life experience focused on play, growth and connection.🌻

Survival states

However, there are many things that can take us out of feeling safe at any time. As highly evolved mammals, we have a highly sensitive survival system that is constantly on the lookout for signs of danger. As soon as it perceives one, it instantly takes us out of the feeling of security and activates our survival instincts: fight, flee or collapse and be stunned.

Dysregulation

Of course, there are situations where there is actual physical danger that activates our instincts, but often our instinctual responses are inappropriate for the situation we find ourselves in. Our nervous system can react to external events that it deems dangerous, even if they are not actually dangerous, or to someone's words as a threat. If we have experienced trauma in our life, our body can store the memory of the traumatic event, and this body memory alone can sometimes activate a survival response, in the absence of any other internal or external trigger. 😨

The list of potential triggers is long, because we are naturally very sensitive to danger. This has been very useful to us from an evolutionary point of view, giving us the best chance to quickly recognize and avoid any danger.🌊

Keeping our relational selves in line

So the challenge before us is to maintain as much and as fully as possible our whole being in an environment that can constantly trigger us in different ways. The more we can do this, the more we can move from a reactive life and survival strategies to a life of fulfillment, creativity, and true intimacy with others.

This is where learning to create and maintain strong somatic safety comes into play and self-care practices are essential through breath, movement, sound and touch.⭐

Let's learn how to effectively restore our sense of somatic security when we are out of balance, and how to create stronger, lasting somatic security in the long term.

Stay tuned to find out more. I look forward to accompanying you on this journey towards greater somatic security and a more fulfilling life.🌻
